HMS ILLUSTRIOUS
The current HMS Illustrious (Fifth) was laid down in Swan Hunters on 7th October 1976. On 20th June 1982, after steering gear trouble, she was finally commissioned at sea and headed directly to the Falkland Islands. Over the last 15 years participated in the First Gulf War, the Sierra Leone Evacuations and the war in Afghanistan in 2001. In October 2002, HMS Illustrious undertook a 104 week refit in Roysth Dockyard.
1st February 2010, off Rosyth for a £40 million maintenance and upgrade programme.
The barge AMT TRADER at the end of the 600 mile voyage around Scotland from BAE systems’ Govan yard on the Clyde to the Rosyth dockyard on Firth of Forth. Her deck cargo is the 8.000 tons section of the next generation Royal Navy aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth. Lower Block 03, measures 23m tall, 40m wide, 63m long and is the latest section of the 65,000-ton warship to be built throughout a number of UK shipyards and transported to the Forth for completion.
The tow which started on Tuesday evening was completed four days later on the evening Saturday 20th August

The command & support ships can perform a number of national and inter-national task, including transportation of personal and material, command platform for land, air and sea operations. The ship also has a mine laying capacity. It also has the capacity to carry out humanitarian operations as a hospital ship.
The ship is fitted with a 900 square meter flexible deck to perform in different operations and has a roll-on-roll-off (RO/RO) capacity aft.
